Don't waste the stop. Certainly not the place I last visited in 2001 (I moved out of the area). I knew the Palmers sold it but wow. These people are just phoning it in now. The initial building is all but abandoned. Not even any signs to tell you to come to the back of the property. When you get to the second building, the workers are too busy to help you with wine flights or anything else. They're not interested in what you thought of their mediocre wines after each tasting. We even had to wait almost 5 minutes in between some of the wine samplings because the employee just up and disappeared on us. Made us feel like we were in their way or interrupting them. And although their website sells souvenirs, there's nothing to buy on the premises but their bottles of wines, overpriced glasses of wines, and a less than impressive cheese/nut/prosciutto platter. Imagine my embarrassment when I couldn't stop telling my friend all about this winery I discovered back in the '90's until we arrived and found out what they were now. I won't be back nor would I recommend a dog to stop by there. They're relying on the location (first winery on Sound Ave), the Palmer name, and their reputation of long ago. Keep driving.
And sorry, Owner, I'm not misinformed and not lying. I know what I have experienced here - almost 30 years ago (do you?), and now, on Friday, June 8, 2018, and what a contrast. Definitely not the same place and my friend was not impressed either as a first time visitor. And I've been to dozens of wineries stretching from Nova Scotia to Hawaii in those 30 years and have not ever experienced that type of customer service (or lack thereof) at any of them. Left to go to another winery that Friday June evening and what a difference - welcoming, interested, friendly - and better wines. Maybe it was an off night at the "new (to me)" Palmer but I'm not willing to try it again. Other LI wineries to visit & experience and wines to drink. I've always loved LI wines and tell others about them all the time. I'm glad for you if others feel differently from me and you have 4.3 out of 5 stars, even if I'm in a minority with some other reviewers who haven't given you 5 stars.
