Our events have kicked off dozens of imitators but we're still the first and the original! The LA Food Fest was born as the LA Street Food Fest downtown in February 2010 with a lofty goal not only to fill a gap in the events scene by creating an event that was the first of its kind, but to create community and a platform to support independent small business owners and both established and budding restaurateurs.
Promotional tasting events often require vendors to donate their food and services, something we knew could be challenging, especially for new and less established vendors, and for that reason, we were the first event to make a stand and support our vendors by subsidizing the participation of every vendor at the LA Food Fest events between 2010 and 2015, to the tune of more than $100,000.00 per event! This was a concept unheard of in the culinary event world that's since encouraged a number of other events to adopt similar policies. In 2011 we created a sister event called Artisanal LA to further showcase small food producers and makers and reduce barriers to entry to the marketplace.
For us, every event is an opportunity to do a little good and to help make this amazing city we call home a little better for it. With this year's all new event, we'll still be partially subsidizing our participating vendors and giving them an opportunity to sell which they haven't had since our very first event in 2010. We hope that you will join us in enjoying fantastic food and a great time, knowing you're also supporting our local community, restaurateurs and LA's economy!
